Very simple to setup (yes, in reality), uses [BSON|http://bsonspec.org/] (binary JSON). MongoDB can be the one database for everything the wiki needs (users, groups, documents, history, etc.) Scales horizontally, which is what we want as we will have unlimited document growth until the end of the universe.
Works well with zfs compression.
